What is the KAZA UNIVISA?
The KAZA UNIVISA is a single tourist visa that covers both Zimbabwe and Zambia. It is named after the Kavango–Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA), the cross-border region that includes Victoria Falls, Hwange, Chobe and the Okavango.
With it you can cross between Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) and Livingstone (Zambia) while it is valid — to see the Falls from both sides, visit Livingstone Island and Devil's Pool, or stay on one side and do activities on the other.
Cost and validity
At the time of writing the KAZA UNIVISA costs USD 50 and is valid for up to 30 days, as long as you stay within Zimbabwe and Zambia. Fees and rules can change, so check with the immigration authorities shortly before you travel.
Chobe day trips into Botswana
The UNIVISA also covers day trips into Botswana through the Kazungula border: you can visit Chobe and come back into Zimbabwe or Zambia on the same day without buying a new visa. It does not cover overnight stays in Botswana, and it does not replace any visa you may need for Botswana itself (many nationalities enter Botswana visa-free).
Who can get it, and where
The UNIVISA is available to passport holders of a list of eligible countries, which includes the UK, most of the EU, the USA, Canada, Australia and many others. Eligibility depends on your nationality, so check the current list before you travel.
It is usually issued on arrival at the main entry points around Victoria Falls, including Victoria Falls Airport, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Airport in Livingstone, the Victoria Falls Bridge border and the Kazungula border. Bring US dollars in cash in case card payment isn't available. In busy periods the visas occasionally run short at the border; if that happens you can buy a single- or double-entry visa instead.
Do I need it?
- Staying only in Zimbabwe? A standard single-entry Zimbabwe visa is enough — unless you also want a Chobe day trip, which needs a way back in.
- Seeing both sides of the Falls or doing Devil's Pool? Get the UNIVISA.
- Doing a Chobe day trip from Victoria Falls? The UNIVISA is usually the simplest option.
- Continuing to Botswana or Namibia overnight? You leave the UNIVISA area; plan visas for each country (we will help).
